William Hefler Sr.

William J. Hefler Sr., 89 of Streator passed away Tuesday afternoon (February 23, 2021) at his residence.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 1, 2021 at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. Rodney Kreier officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to services Monday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Streatorland Food Pantry.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, facial coverings are required, and social distancing standards will be followed.

Bill was born June 12, 1931 in Streator, a son of William C. and Anna E. (Yurch) Hefler.  He married Rita I. Wahl on October 27, 1956 in Streator.  She preceded him in death on June 22, 1996.

Surviving are three sons, Gregory (Susan) Hefler of Chillicothe, David (Cathy) Hefler of San Juan Capistrano, CA and William (Patti) Hefler Jr. of Sycamore; nine grandchildren, Stephen (Melissa) Hefler, Sarah (Curt) Reddington, Joseph (Erika) Hefler, Timothy Hefler, Nicholas (Darlina) Hefler, Melissa (Skyler) Gibbs, Micayla Hefler, Cole Hefler and Trace Hefler; and 6 great grandchildren, Alex, Cade, Paisley, Charlotte, Mia and Jack.  Also surviving are a brother, James (Dolores) Hefler of Streator; and three sisters, Shirley McClellan, Doris Tanner and Joy Brewer, all of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Robert Hefler.

Bill was a loving and kind father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by his family.  He lived a full life and loved to stay busy.  He enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking and many projects around the house.  Bill served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
