Wayne E. Thompson, 85, of Streator, went to go be with his loving wife, Carol, at 12:45 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the Henry Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

 

Wayne was born November 24, 1938 in Magnolia, a son of Joseph and Mae (Hauger) Thompson.  He married Carol J. Manfroi on November 15, 1958.  She preceded him in death on September 16, 2023.

 

He leaves behind two sons, David (Paula) Thompson and Brian (Jill) Thompson; two daughters, Sally (Jack) Libby, and Janet (Brian) Buchanan; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren with one on the way.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; a daughter, Mary Jean Thompson in infancy; a brother, Joseph Thompson Jr.; and a sister, Julia Biagioni.

 

Wayne attended Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and then served during the Korean War.  He had retired from Coke-a-Cola as a delivery man and later from Vactor.  He loved his dirt track racing and worked on the Tyne Racing pit crew.

 

His family will always carry his memory in their hearts.

 

There will be a private family graveside service to inter the ashes of Wayne and Carol at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Toluca.   Cremation rites have been entrusted to Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
