STREATOR- Vincent L. Vendrzyk 89 of Streator died Wednesday morning (Mar. 21, 2012) at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator with Rev. Dustin Schultz, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday with the rosary recited at 4:00 PM Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Mr. Vendrzyk was born March 12, 1923 in Cambria County Pennsylvania near Lilly Pennsylvania, the son of Vincent L. and Mary (Kozak) Vendrzyk. He married LaVerne Hombaker, May 25, 1950 at St. Anthony’s Church, Streator. She preceded him in death Apr. 27, 2002.
Vincent was the owner and operator of Peru Auto Electric for fifty years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church, and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator, American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492, Streator as well as several automotive trade organizations. He attended Lily PA schools.
Vince was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment attached to the 82
nd
Airborne in the European Theater and saw action throughout Europe including the Battle of the Bulge and the Champaign Campaign, receiving the Bronze Star medal.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Christopher) Roforth, Maple Grove, MN and Judith (Matthew Maciejewski) Vendrzyk, Bloomington, two grandchildren, William and Alex Roforth, Maple Grove MN, four sisters, Elsie Vendrzyk and Wanda Thomas both of Michigan, Clara Edwards, Florida and Barbara Wallace, New Jersey one brother, Chester Vendrzyk, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Magdeline Zajdel, Helen Beres and Valaria Manturuk, three brothers, Rudolph, Edward and Anthony Vendrzyk.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Memorials may be made to the U.S.O. or the Salvation Army.
