Shirley I. Weyand

Shirley I. Weyand, 86 of LaPorte, IN formerly of Streator passed away Friday, December 23, 2022 in LaPort, IN.

She was born September 12, 1936 in Long Point, a daughter of Everett B. and Viola (Hatfield) Artman.  She married Edward J. Weyand on August 9, 1958.  He preceded her in death on January 10. 2003.

Surviving is a daughter, Susan R. (Aaron L.) Hallam of LaPorte, IN; a great grandson, Ryley E. Kucinski; a step-granddaughter, Audre A. (Imad Hamdi) Hallam; a step-grandson, Stephen A. Hallam; a sister, Lucille (John) Durdan; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; granddaughter, Mallory E. Kucinski; four brothers, Stanley (Norma), Kenneth (Georgia), Rexall and Jack (Ruth Anne); and sister, Ruby (Dwain) Raridon and three sisters in infancy.

Shirley was the Valedictorian of Long Point High School class of 1954.  She had worked in the banking industry for 40 years and as a teachers aid for 8 years after retirement. 

She was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church and then a member of St. Michael’s Parish.  Shirley was a devout catholic who loved her family and friends.  She would help anyone in need.  She loved sewing and quilting.  She was cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.  There will always be a place for her in our hearts.

A memorial mass will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, May 27, 2023 at St. Mary of the Fields Catholic Church, rural Grand Ridge.  Burial of ashes will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ryley Kucinski, Phillip Towner, Aaron Hallam and Kevin Artman.  Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday at the Church.  Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
