Streator

Shirley J. Kimber, 95, of Streator passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born February 25, 1929 in Streator, the daughter of Roy and Audrey (Hoskins) Jones.  She married Edward W. Kimber on May 17, 1953.  He preceded her in death on February 14, 2003.

 

Surviving are a son, Edward A. (Deb McNutt) Kimber of Streator; a daughter, Karen Daly of Streator; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin Kimber, and Kimber and Donald Daly; and four great grandchildren, Abigail Kimber, and Hannah, Haylie and Hayden Kimber.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; a son, Brian Kimber; and a son-in-law, Patrick Daly.

 

Shirley attended the Streator Schools and was a graduate of Streator High School.  She worked for Illinois Valley Dairy and Prairie Farms Dairy for over 40 years.

 

She was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church in Streator and was the oldest member of Streator Eagles # 645 Auxiliary.

 

She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and plastic canvas projects.  She loved baking and helped for 20 years cutting up veggies for salads for Reading Fire Dept. Fire Fest.  She also treasured her time playing aggravation and checkers with her grand kids and great grand kids.

 

At Shirley’s request, she will be cremated and there will be no viewing or services.  Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.   Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Reading Volunteer Fire Department or Pet Project in Marseilles.

 

The family would like to thank Pastor Starner and OSF Hospice for the compassionate care they have given our mother, Shirley.
