Sharon M. Carlson 73 of Streator died Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 6, 2011) at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at First United Methodist Church , Streator with Rev. Jerry Haley, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator at a later date.
Mrs. Carlson was born July 7, 1938 in Streator, the daughter of Lester and Geraldine (Briner) Grampp. She married Darrell “Dean” Carlson Nov. 7, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church . He survives.
Sharon was a homemaker and had been employed at Oakland Park Grade School and was active with the Streatorland Community Food Pantry. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over fifty years, and also the Methodist Women and the Parent Teacher Organization, all of Streator.
Sharon enjoyed flowers, gardening and walking her dog. Sharon and Dean were winter Texans for sixteen years.
She is survived by her husband, Dean of Streator, one daughter, Stacy (Charles) Fleming, Aurora, two sons, Darrell C. Carlson, Highland IN , Daniel (Angela) Carlson, Downers Grove , seven grandchildren, one brother, Laird “Larry” Grampp, Streator and one aunt, Esther Wilhelm, Mazon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David Michael Carlson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Jacobs, Jake and Hank Herman, Dick Mitchell, Elizia Turpin and Mark Heinbaugh, Larry Casey, Tim Mehalic and Wayne Longnecker.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
