Sandra "Sandy" Retoff

Sandra “Sandy” Retoff, 70 of Streator, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at her home surrounded by family.

Following Sandy’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator have been entrusted with arrangements.

Sandy was born December 30, 1955 in Princeton, a daughter of Alvin and Gertrude (Taylor) Hillyer. She married Michael Pottinger on December 20, 1973. She later married Louis Retoff on October 29, 1994. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2018.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela (Robert) Carpenter of Streator and Michelle (Todd Carpenter) Pottinger of Minonk; five grandchildren, Autumn Thomas, Jacob Carpenter, Maranda Carpenter, Coty Carpenter and Faith Carpenter; and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are two step-children, Dana Retoff and Stephen Retoff, both of Streator; two step-grandchildren; four sisters, Janet Genseke and Carol Pottinger, both of Streator, Glenda “Sue” Wright and Shirley Parola, both of Benton; and two brothers, Gary (Nancy) Hillyer of Long Point and David Hillyer of Lostant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jim Hillyer and Lloyd Hillyer.

Sandy and her husband owned and operated Retoff’s Tavern in Streator. She loved to be around her family and friends and would often have them over for cookouts.
