Samuel “Sam” D. Cook, 94, of Streator passed away at 1:00 PM Monday (November 27, 2017) at the LaSalle Veterans Home in LaSalle.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 AM Saturday at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.  Rev. Caleb Suydam of Park Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Russian Orthodox Cemetery.

He was born on July 30, 1923 in Streator to Peter & Anna (Wargo) Cook.  He married the former Marjorie “Marge” Voights on December 23, 1955.  She preceded him in death on November 24, 1998.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers:  Peter, Andrew, Stephen, George, William, Matthew and Robert John Cook and sisters:  Ann Zelenock, Helen Mitchell, Mary Leese and Pauline Gingrich.

He graduated from Streator Township High School in 1941 and then served in the United States Army Chemical Corps overseas in Asia and also in the Korean War.

He had owned and operated Cooks Heating and Air Conditioning until retirement.

He was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, Streator Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #591, Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492, the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and a former member of the Streator Country Club.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and gardening.

Memorials may be directed to the Russian Orthodox Cemetery.
