STREATOR- Russell C. Hillenbrand 87 of Streator died Saturday morning (Sept. 7, 2013) at the LaSalle Veteran’s Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. Jane Esterline, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Monday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Mr. Hillenbrand was born Aug. 14, 1926 in Streator the son of Henry and Minerva (Langly) Hillenbrand. He married Martha Wahl, Mar. 5, 1947 in Ottawa. She preceded him in death Oct. 23, 2004.
Russell had been employed at the former Streator Furniture Co., Anthony Co. and for thirty years as a service technician for Applegate TV, Blackstone, Russell also operated his own TV and radio repair service. He was a former member of Park Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High School, class of 1944. Russell was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army in Europe in the Tank Corps.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Richard) Anderson, Streator, Gloria Kelley (Jorge) Gonzalez, Tulsa OK, one son, Henry Hillenbrand, Chester, nine grandchildren, Charles Anderson, Charlene Pisani, Colleen Anderson, Christine Anderson, Elizabeth Kelley, Mathew Kelley, Thomas Elliott, Jeremy Elliot, and Dawn Janousek, eleven great grandchildren, Nicholas Anderson, Abraham Anderson, Eleanor Anderson, Kyle Waters, Alex Waters, Kali Waters, Michael Cooke, Hunter Elliott, Camden Anderson, Gabrielle Moody and Kadence Elliott and one great great grandson, Zane Waters, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was a kind and thoughtful person, always wanting to help other people. He loved people, had a good sense of humor and loved the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Mercedes Hillenbrand and three brothers, Willard, Henry and Stanley Hillenbrand and stepfather, Edward Young.
Pallbearers will be Richard, Charlie, Nick, Abe and Camden Anderson and Michael Cooke.
Memorials may be made the activity fund at the LaSalle Veterans Home or the Pet Project, Marseilles.
