Robert A. Schmitt

Robert A. Schmitt, 79, of Streator, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026 surrounded by his family at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Peru.

Robert was born December 11, 1946 in Streator, a son of Vincent J. and Phyllis D. (Borglin) Schmitt. He married Joan W. Lacey on December 18, 1971. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2023.

Surviving are his children, Erik (Rachel) Schmitt and their daughter, Ellyse of Columbus, OH, and Lacey (Mike) Barahona and their children, Sedona and Roman, of Columbus OH; a sister, Carole (Kurt) Flaherty of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, Vincent and Phyllis Schmitt; and a sister, Jacqueline LeRette.

A private memorial service will be held at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, IL. Burial with military rites performed by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Streator.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Starved Rock Regional Center (formerly Easter Seals).
