Nancy Joyce Laka

Nancy Joyce Schreida Laka,89, of Streator, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026 in Streator.

Nancy was born on January 12, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the cherished daughter of Paul Schreida and Stephanie Schreida, who preceded her in shaping the strong and caring woman she became. Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family. She is lovingly survived by her children: Frank Laka (Terri), Patricia Carroll (Mike), and Cheryl Laka (Ron). 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sons, Mark Laka (Janice) and Chester Laka Jr.

Nancy was a proud and loving grandmother to Johnny, Angela, Nathan, Matthew, Paul, Jessica, Ashley, Sammi, Billy, Charles, and Annie (Andy). Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Anna, Paul Jr, Brooklyn, Kasen, Ava, and Sedalia, who brought immense joy to her life. Nancy also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Kim and Kelly, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She dedicated part of her professional life working for the law firm Bodell & Sears, where she eventually retired early. Outside of work, Nancy embraced life with enthusiasm—she loved bowling, dancing, and playing bingo. She was known for her vibrant spirit and could often be found spending time with her best friend, Dixie Hamilton, sharing laughter and cherished memories. Nancy will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. 

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
