Myrtle C. Kooi

Myrtle C. Kooi, 101, of Streator passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at Parker Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Streator.

Cremation rites will be accorded and private burial will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.  Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator is assisting the family with arrangements.

Myrtle was born July 2, 1922 in Buda, a daughter of Michael and Mable (Carper) Philhower.  She married Earl H. Kooi on March 3, 1938 in Davenport, IA.  He preceded her in death on October 9, 2003.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Glenn) Clark of Kenosha, WI, Tim (Flo) Kooi of Peoria, and Janice Head of Streator; a daughter-in-law, Gillian Kooi; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Mitchell Kooi of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Kooi; a daughter, Anna Marie Turner; five sisters, Annabelle Lampkin, Esther Padgett, Ruth Darrow, Gerturde Horton, and Sarah D’Onfrio; and two brothers, Charles Philhower and Earnest Philhower.

Myrtle was a former member of Central Church of Christ.  She had worked at the Westside Laundromat.
