Mike Bennett

James M. “Mike” Bennett Jr, 66 of Cornell passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.

Following Mike’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator.

Mike was born April 13, 1959 in Streator, a son of James M. and Eloise (Stachewicz) Bennett Sr.. He began dating Cathleen Robertson in 2005. They were married May 17, 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Cathleen; his mother, Eloise Bennett; children, James (Stephanie) Bennett III, Sam (Matt) Highland, Matt (Amanda) Mance, Maria (Buddy) Miller, Barbie Bennett, Clara Jo Bennett, Johnathon Threat, Samantha Washington, Jacqueline Robertson, and Joey Martin; many grandchildren; and a few great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, John (Theresa) Bennett, Christine (Joe) Weber, Timothy Bennett, Jamie McDonald; and a sister-in-law, Janette Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Jim” Bennett Sr.; two brothers, William and Richard Bennett; a brother-in-law, Ted McDonald; and two grandchildren, Emerlyn and Sawyer.

Mike was a graduate of Woodland High School. He had attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Mike had worked for Caterpillar in Pontiac for over 25 years. He enjoyed working on cars and sitting outside. Anyone that knew Mike, will remember his unique infectious laugh.
