Michael D. O'Brien

Michael D. O’Brien age 65, at rest on Easter Sunday April, 5, 2026, at the Fransican Village located in Lemont, Illinois. Born in Chicago on July 24, 1960, later residing in New Lenox, Dwight, and Streator, Illinois.

Survived by three siblings: James A. (Marion) O’Brien of Chatham, IL, Barry T. (Sandra) O’Brien of New Lenox, IL and Jamee A. O’Brien of New Lenox, IL; four nieces: Cheryl L. (Robert) Witzke of Joliet, IL, Kelly O’Brien of Lockport, IL, Jody L. Formea of Chatham, IL, Corie (Michael) Walsh of Frankfort, IL; and one nephew, John W. (Amy) O’Brien of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Also survived by nine grandnieces and grandnephews: Codi O’Brien, Rayna O’Brien, John (III) O’Brien, Ryland Formea, Aurora James, Grady Walsh, Anna Walsh, Barrett Walsh, McCormick Walsh; and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents: Robert D. and Celeste A (nee Boyle) O’Brien; and three siblings, Robert D. O’Brien Jr. of Frankfort, IL, John W. O’Brien of Joliet, IL and Maureen O’Brien of Clearwater, Florida.

Michael (Mike) attended elementary school at St. Christina School in Chicago, IL and graduated from Providence High School in New Lenox, IL. Mike completed a baccalaureate degree from Illinois’ Governor’s State University with a major in Mass Communication / Media Studies and a minor in Videography. After graduating he obtained employment at Joliet Junior College (JJC) working in the Audio / Visual Department. While employed at JJC, Michael also completed an Associate (AA) degree in data processing. Mike retired from JJC after a career lasting 31 years. Mike loved photography and videography. He also loved music and provided DJ services at many family functions and other venues. Mike was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Streator, IL and was a man of strong Christian faith. He dearly loved his family and will be missed by them and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 407 S. Park Street, Streator, IL, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM at the church. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Streator, IL following the Mass. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, IL is in charge of arrangements.
