Michael "Mike" F. Magana

Michael F. “Mike” Magana of Ottawa passed away on Monday September 9, 2024, at Pavilion of Ottawa. 

 Mike was born on November 23, 1941, the son of Michael U. and Grace (Malone) Magana. Mike is survived by his children, Anthony (husband Hussein) Magana of Webster TX., Kris (Rob) Jordan, and Raymond (Meagan Rothrock) Magana both of Streator, Mike (Megan) Magana III of Plainfield, and Jeremy Magana of Ottawa; grandchildren, Grace Magana, Ellie, Jacob, and Maddox Magana, and Sydney, Sadey, Sarah, Selenah, Shelby Magana; and one great grandson, Matthew Yurich. Also surviving is sister, Rosemary Fencel of Ottawa; and his former wife / life partner, Mary Magana. 

 Mike was preceded in death by parents, Mike Sr. and Grace; a brother, Frank Magana; and three sisters, Dolores Mendoza, Carmi Huseman, and Juanita Orban. 

 Mike was a member of the former St. Stephen’s and St. Anthony’s parishes. 

 Dad struggled with dementia, complications from open heart surgery and diverticulitis for approximately nine years. He was extremely strong during this time and displayed a high-level of resiliency to whatever God had in store for him. Throughout his life dad also displayed an extraordinary work ethic and very seldom took a day off. Dad could never rest and was always on the go. He also found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren around the pool. 

 Dad was extremely proud of his career, as he served nearly 30 years on the Rock Island, Burlington Northern, and Santa Fe Railroads following in the footsteps of his father and brother. Dad was also proud of the fact that he worked his way through jobs such as Brakeman and Fireman eventually becoming an Engineer where he operated several heavy, high-speed trains over many years. Following his career on the railroad, dad and Mary operated Michael J’S and he also drove trucks for Vactor. 

 Cremation rights will be accorded, Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home in Streator is in charge of arrangements.
