Melvin W. Frye

Melvin W. Frye, 90 of Streator, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026 at the Arc of Streator.

Melvin affectionately known as “Uncle Moe” was born September 9, 2026 in Brookfield Township, IL to Clarence and Hulda (Vosberg) Frye. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1954.

Melvin retired from AT&T’s Norway Station in 1990. He loved fishing and riding motorcycles with his friends. He rode his motorcycle well into his 80’s. He enjoyed traveling, with Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations. In his later years, he enjoyed working alongside his nephews on his brother Ron’s farm.

Melvin was known for his wonderful visiting skills. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and could always be counted on for a good conversation. He was also very knowledgeable about his family’s genealogy and took great interest in preserving and sharing his family history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hulda; and three brothers, Owen (Marge), Emmett (Betty) and Ronald (Rose).

Melvin leaves behind his beloved cats, Charlie and Tigger; several nieces and nephews, and his dear friend and neighbor, Chris and Carla Cottingham.

Family and friends are welcomed to attend Celebration of Life / Memorial Service at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Ronald Frye Farm (Frye Farms) in Rural Seneca. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Melvin’s name to For The Love of Pets (Streator), Streatorland Community Food Pantry, or Lightway’s Hospice (Joliet).

Melvin will be remembered for his love of family, his stories and conversations, his adventurous spirit, and his genuine interest in the people around him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
