STREATOR-  Maxine R. Melrose, 79 of Streator died Tuesday afternoon (June 19, 2012) at Flanagan Rehabilitation and Healthcare, (formerly Beulah Land), Flanagan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Jane Esterline, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Friday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator.
Mrs. Melrose was born May 12, 1933 in Lostant, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Stafford) Schmitz. She married Dean Melrose, Jan. 21, 1950. He preceded her in death Aug. 14, 1992.
Maxine was a homemaker and was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, Streator. She attended Lostant grade school and Streator High School. Maxine was named the resident of the month at the nursing home in Dec. 2011.
She is survived by three daughters, Pauline (Dennis) Henert, Marengo, Carla (Charles “Charlie”) Klein, Ancona and Jill (Ronald) Carnduff, Streator, seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Martha Schiffbauer, Peru and Mary (Maurice) Henderson, Streator, one brother, John (Evelyn) Schmitz, Geneseo as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandchild in infancy, two brothers, Gene and Edward “Bud” Schmitz.
Pallbearers will be grandson, Randy Henert, nephews, Darrin and John Schmitz Jr., Mike and Terry Henderson, Thomas Schiffbauer and son-in-law Charlie Klein. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Heather, Sara, Roland, Shelly, Jessica and Racheal.
Memorial may be made to the Guardian Angel Outreach, Streator Unlimited or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
