Mary L. Svetz

Mary L. (Moats) Svetz, 83 of Streator passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Bella Terra Lombard, IL.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family.

She is survived by her husband, William Svetz; children, Teresa Dow, Julie (Edward) Ortega, and William Svetz Jr.; one brother, Robert (Vicki) Moats; and grandchildren, Crystal (Chris) Lafferty, Drew (Maigen) Berg, Aaron (Maxine) Deboor, Lacey (Toby) Steele, Sarah (Jeremiah) Parcher, and Maddison (Robert) Madrigal. Mary Also leaves behind 9 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Harlan Moats; brothers, James, Ronald, Lee, and David; sisters, Wilma Darm and Betty Hickman; and a daughter-in-law, Joleen Svetz.

Mary was a homemaker and beautician who retired early to spend time with her family. She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church, currently St. Michael the Archangel Parish, and the Moose and Lions Clubs.

Mary was obsessed with all dogs, Bingo and the Gameshow Network. The best thing about Mary was her wonderful sense of humor. She will be deeply missed. 

A private graveside service will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator to honor Mary’s Life. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
