Mary Jo "Bird" Armstrong

Mary Jo “Bird” Armstrong, 63 of Ransom passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, surrounded by her family.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 Friday, October 17, 2025 at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM Friday at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ransom. Pallbearers will be Jake Hepner, Beau Hepner, Adam Armstrong, Jeremy Sherman and AJ Delaney.

Bird was born March 27, 1962 in Rantoul, a daughter of Lt. Col. Ronald and Mary Ellen (McCambridge) Legner. She married Arthur “Art” Lee Armstrong on May 29, 1982 in Ransom.

She is survived by her husband, Art; her children, Brittany (Andrew) Delaney of Streator, Holly Armstrong of Ransom, Brooke (Jeremy) Sherman of Streator, and Adam (Cassidy Conrad) Armstrong of Streator; and 4 grandchildren, Rylee and Tyler Delaney and Case and Logan Sherman. Also surviving are two sisters, Patrice (Allan) Simons of Rural Streator and Mindy (Bill) Hepner of Ransom; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald “Sam” Legner Jr.; and a sister, Janet “Miki” Hepner.

Bird was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ransom. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed attending all of her kids and grandkids’ school and sporting activities.
