Marjorie R. Carrubba, 91, of Streator passed away at 11:01 AM Tuesday (April 11, 2017) at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 AM Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Rev. Ray Guthrie and Rev. Jeffrey Small will concelebrate the Mass.
Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Sharisky Sr, Richard Sharisky Jr., Cory Sharisky, Mark Harcar, Michael Smith and Aaron Smith.
She was born on August 9, 1925 in Washington, Indiana to Roy and Edith (Reel) Nicholson. She married George Simko on June 10, 1950 and he passed away on April 29, 1966. She then married Paul Carrubba on September 2, 1974. He passed away on August 5, 1981.
She is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Simko and Georgene Simko, both of Streator; 4 stepchildren: Michael, Carol, Jean and Richard and 5 step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and sisters: Betty Rawls and Dorothy Smith.
She graduated from Streator Township High School.
She had worked at Owen’s-Illinois Glass, St. Stephen’s Cafeteria and Camelot Manor.
She was a former member of St. Stephen’s Church and now a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. She had belonged to St. Stephen’s Altar & Rosary Society and was a Holy Roller at St. Stephen’s Church baking Rozek. She formerly volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital with the Pink Ladies.
Marjorie was an avid Cubs fan, and was so happy when they became World Series Champs.
One of her happiest moments was when she met Max Armstrong in person and he posed for a picture with her. She also got a picture of his famous red tractor.
She also loved animals. She had a childhood pet, Trixie when she was young. Later on, she had Chi-Chi and Pepe in her life.
Marjorie loved to cook and back and enjoyed crocheting.
