STREATOR-  Marcella “Marcy” Novotney 86 of Streator passed away Saturday September 1st at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday September 8th at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Streator with Monsignor Philip Halfacre, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday September 7th at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with the Rosary recited at 4:00 PM.
Mrs. Novotney was born June 20, 1926 in Streator the daughter of Stefana (Soltis) and Andrew Uhren. She married John R. Novotney, October 15, 1946 at St. Stephen’s Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John, George, Andrew, Joseph, Edward, Frank and sisters Anne and Emma and her husband John, March 29, 2002.
Marcy and her husband were the owners of Novotney’s Bi-Rite Grocery Store in Streator for 43 years, retiring in 1996. She began working in the family grocery store on Lundy Street as World War II broke out and her brothers went to the service. She enjoyed working with her husband in the grocery store, working in her yard and also enjoyed golf and snowmobiling Up North. They were members of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and the Streator Country Club. She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Marcy is survived by one daughter, Patti (Rick) Rhynes, Streator, one son, John R. “Jack” (Mary Jo) Novotney Jr., Ottawa and five grandchildren, Jesse (Rosamar), Jayme (Megan), John (Jennifer), Stefana (Michael), and Justin. Marcy had one great grandchild, Henry Novotney.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and long time family friend and Godfather to her grandchildren Richard Alberts.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
