STREATOR-  Lillian G. Novak 90 of Streator died Friday evening (June 5, 2015) in Peru Illinois doing what she loved, playing Bingo.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator with Rev. John Gutz, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Mrs. Novak was born May 23, 1925 in London, England, the daughter of David and Lillian Neal. She was a survivor of the Battle of Briton having lost everything she had and most of her friends during the Bombing of London. Going to work at 14 during the War she worked at factories making pistons for airplanes and sewing soldier’s uniforms until the factories were destroyed during the bombing. Lillian was an English war bride.
She married Melvin “Mel” Novak, Feb. 11, 1950 in Streator. He preceded her in death September 16, 1999.
Lillian had been employed at Lipton Tea Co, Bruce Township, the LaSalle County Treasurers office, and was a former County Board member. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator and enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Lillian was the past President of the Republican Women. She attended school in England and was a US Citizen since 1955.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lynn (John) Farnetti, New Lenox, two sons, Mark (Diane) Novak, Rochester IL and David Novak, Bel Air MD, five grandchildren, Anthony (Alexis) Farnetti, Rockford, Andrew ( Chloe) Farnetti, Melbourne Australia, Taylor Farnetti, New Lenox, Christina Novak and Lindsey Novak, both of Rochester, two brothers, Harry (Marge) Neal and Ron Neal both of Devon England.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Salvation Army.
