Lavina Benckendorf

Lavina S. “Tiny” Benckendorf 94 of Streator died Wednesday morning (Oct. 26, 2011) at Heritage Health, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Jerry Haley, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Monday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Allen Township Cemetery , Ransom.
Mrs. Benckendorf was born April 24, 1917 in Kangley, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Love) Alberts. She married Eugene Benckendorf, March 12, 1950 in Streator. He preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1968.
Tiny had been employed at Owens Illinois Glass Co. and later retired from Heritage Manor Nursing Home in 1976 after twenty five years of employment. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church , Streator. She attended Kangley schools.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Michael) Obenhin, Streator, two grandchildren, Tara (Paul) DeMink, Aurora and Ryan Obenhin, Streator, three great grandchildren, Nolan and Hunter DeMink and Hayley Obenhin and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Judy Perona, Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, Juanita Black, Nell Alberts, June Heinz, Novetta Brock, Darlene St. John and Della Pouk and three brothers, John, Kenneth and Linden Alberts.
Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
