Larry O. Simpson, 84 of Mendota formerly of Earlville, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Allure of Mendota surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Earlville United Methodist Church. Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the church following the service. Pallbearers will be Garrett Simpson, Logan West, Brandon Simpson, Hunter Simpson, Dominic Brooks, and Adam Carreno. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of ashes will be at a later date in Precinct Cemetery, Earlville. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service 12:00 Noon at the church. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator have been entrusted with arrangements.

Larry was born August 16, 1940 in Paw Paw, a son of Orin Jay and Sarah (Hof) Simpson. He married Mary Louise Thompson on July 1, 1962 in Paw Paw. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2020.

He is survived by three children, Randy (Amanda) Simpson of Mendota, Douglas (Stephanie) Simpson of Spring Valley, and Nicole (Gary) West of Mendota; 8 grandchildren, Brandon, Cheyenne (Dominic), Garrett, Katelyn, Amanda, Logan, Hunter and Aubrey; and 2 great grandsons, Beckham and Theodore. Also surviving is a close cousin, Casandra (Bill) Mitchell of Earlville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; a granddaughter, Kaylee; and a brother, Bill Simpson.

Larry was a member of the Earlville United Methodist Church. He had retired from General Electric in Dekalb as a maintenance mechanic. He was a member of the Earlville Fire Department for 30 years and a past fire chief from 1983 to 1999. He was a founding member of the Earlville Ambulance Service.

Larry had served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, Stationed in Texas. He was a member of the Earlville American Legion Post 549. Larry had the privilege to take part of the Honor Flight #117 on August 28, 2024, a trip he truly enjoyed.

Most of all, Larry cherished his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Allure of Mendota, OSF Hospice and his special girls at Outpatient Services at St. Paul Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Earlville Fire Department or the Earlville United Methodist Church.
