Katherine Nichols

Katherine V. Nichols, 95, of Streator passed away at 2:05 PM Monday (September 11, 2017) at Pleasant View Luther Home in Ottawa.

A visitation will be held from 9-9:45 AM Saturday at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church.  Rev. Raymond Guthrie will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

She was born on June 18, 1922 in Ottawa, IL to John & Katherine (Esimovich) Damyen.  She married George E. Nichols on July 31, 1941.  He passed away September 9, 1989.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy (Thomas Jr.) Gura of St. Louis, MO., grandchildren:  Katherine (Kevin) Joyce of St. Louis, Thomas (Jessica) Gura III of Leawood, Kansas and Michael Gura of Salt Lake City, Utah.; great grandchildren:  Caitlin Gura, Cole Joyce, Caroline Joyce, Chloe Gura, Lola Gura and Charlotte Gura and sisters:  Ann Harding and Fran Fuller both of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers:  Edward and Jack Damyen and a sister Marie Capitani.

She was a former member of Immaculate Conception church and now a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church.  She was active with the Streator Ladies Elks Auxiliary, active in Girl Scouts and was a Food Pantry Volunteer.

She had been employed by Krystals, Kerrs Jewelry and Jack N Jills.
