Joyce Schmitz

Joyce Schmitz, 88 of Streator passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Arcadia Care at Streator.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, Streator, with Rev. Paul Arnold officiating.  Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Leonore.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.  Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce was born March 24, 1935 in Beverley, Yorkshire, England.  She was a daughter of George Arthur and Elsie (Barnett) Russell.  She married Robert Schmitz on December 29, 1962 in Beverley, Yorkshire, England.  He preceded her in death on March 9, 2022.

She is survived by her daughter, Aprille Schmitz of Normal; brothers-in-law, John Schmitz, Scott Schmitz, and James Schmitz; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Schmitz, Rita (Dr. Richard Teff) Schmitz-Teff, and Edna Schmitz.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a son, Ian Robert Schmitz; two sisters, Elsie Russell and Brenda Gee; two brothers, Sidney Russell and Peter Russell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert I and Edna Mae Schmitz; and two sisters-in-law, Gail Schmitz and Mary Schmitz Gaydos.

Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Streator.  She had worked for the First State Bank in Streator.
