STREATOR-  Herbert “Herb” Brickert 85 of rural Streator died Wednesday morning (May 7, 20140 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Kyle Talbot, officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 PM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home. Full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be held at the funeral home following funeral services. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator at a later date.
Mr. Brickert was born Nov. 7, 1928 at home in rural Streator, the son of August and Viola (Schaefer) Brickert. He married Barbara Endres, June 20, 1970 in Racine WI. She survives.
Herb had farmed in rural Streator for many years, he also was a truck driver and had been employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. He attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Streator and been active with the food share program in Streator. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.
He is survived  his wife Barbara, two daughters, Karen (Charles) Murphy and Wendy (Gerald) Bagby both of Streator, four sons, Gerald (Anita) Brickert, Ft. Worth TX, Randall (Gayle) Brickert, Streator, David (Linda) Brickert, Pardeeville WI and Marine Gunner Edward (Lisa) Brickert, US Marines Corps, Camp Pendleton CA, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Michael Murphy and four brothers, Donald, Russell, Kenneth and Marvin Brickert.
Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church or to the donor’s choice.
