R. Gregory Moran

R. Gregory Moran, 81 of Rural Streator passed away Monday, June 22, 2026 at his home on his farm.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, June 29, 2026 at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ottawa. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Tuesday prior to services. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Ransom. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Greg was born February 13, 1945 in Streator, a son of Timothy Emmett and Carrie Dee (Ritchie) Moran. He married Jean Ann Seroka on May 23, 1970 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ransom.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Dr. Christopher Moran of Ansbach, Germany, Jeffrey (Efie) Moran of Ransom, and Joshua (Caryn) Moran of South Elgin; a daughter, Kelsi (Steve) Liberg of Marseilles; and 7 grandchildren, Gregory and Melina Moran, Aidan, Jacob and Carter Moran, and Emmett and Everett Liberg. Also surviving are a brother, James (Nancy) Moran; a sister, Loretta Moran of Ransom; three sister-in-laws, Janice Foster of Ottawa, Mary Louise (Bob) Sackett of Kileen, TX, and Karen Matos of Ottawa; a brother-in-law, Robert Godwin of Marseilles; two nieces, DeeAnn Moran and Cristi Hundley; a nephew, Ron Moran; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Richard, Eugene “Pete” and Thomas Moran; and two special nephews, David and Rob Moran.

Greg graduated from Seneca High School in 1963 and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. He taught Physical Education and Drivers Education at Wenona / Fieldcrest grade school and high school. He also coached basketball and track and was known as “Coach” to many.

Greg was an elder at the Ottawa congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He spent time in the ministry and loved teaching others the many truths that he had learned in the Bible.

Greg also farmed and had raised cattle. He enjoyed teaching his kids how to work on the farm and taking care of the cattle. He loved showing cattle with his grandkids.

Greg loved his family dearly. He was proud of who his children became, and his happiest times were when they were all home working with him on the farm and with the cattle. He just loved it when they would all work together. He especially loved his wife, Jean. They had just celebrated their 56th anniversary in May.
