STREATOR-  Glenn “Barney” Hansen Sr. 80 of Streator died Wednesday morning (Dec. 4, 2013) at St. James John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator with Rev. Roger Hurlbut, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator and from 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Post # 1492 will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator.
Mr. Hansen was born Feb. 15, 1933 in rural Ransom, the son of Bernhard and Ella (Voges) Hansen. He married Catherine “Genette” Sapp, April 28, 1957 in Odell. She survives.
Barney had been employed at Thatcher Glass Co. in Streator for many years retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he had been an usher and always helped with the annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast, he was also a member of Lazy Acres fishing club. Glenn attended Streator Greeley Grade School and was a graduate of Streator High School, class of 1951.
He is survived by his wife Genette, three daughters, Pamela (Ray) Kress, Streator, Mrs. Kimberly Hansen, Erwin, NC and Cherie (Richard) Kling, Ransom, one son, Rick (Lisa) Hansen, Pontiac, seven grandchildren, John (Christine) Hansen, Tonya (Derek) Carter, Kathleen (Mike) Staton, Julia (Lane) Norton, Mason, Dylan and Ashton Kling, four great grandchildren, Nolan and Mara Hansen, and Daxton and Makayla Carter, one sister, Berneice (Bob) Schultz, Streator and one brother Bernhard (Shirley) Hansen, Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Leona Johnson, Helen Taylor, Zelma Ekstrom, Alice Talty and Evelyn Hansen.
Pallbearers will be John Hansen, Mike Staton, Richard, Mason and Dylan Kling and Derek Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashton Kling, Nolan Hansen and Daxton Carter.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
