George was born January 4, 1933 in Streator, a son of Jack and Nora (Hollenbeck) Benning.  He married Geraldine “Teena” Hausenmueller at St. Andrew’s Church in Zeeland, ND.  She preceded him in death on August 25, 2006.

He is survived by two sons, Peter (Shelly) Benning of Pontiac and Benjamin (Kari) Benning of Streator; and two daughters, Jacklyn “Jackie” (William) Scarratt and Ann Benning, both of Streator.  He was a proud grandfather to grandchildren, Allison (Brian) Dempster, Ryan (Lauren) Benning, Zackary (Mandy) Benning, Sydney Benning, Christopher (Shelly) Scarratt, Ava Glisson and Zeelyn Benning; and a great grandfather to Bryson Hall, Colin Benning, Zoey and Maxwell Benning, Jack Dempster, and Hayden Scarratt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Teena; two sons, Patrick Bosco Benning and George Christopher Benning; his parents; and his only sister, Mary Margaret Barickman.

After graduation from Streator High School, he enlisted in the United States Marines.  He was a sargeant and served from 1951 to 1953 fighting in the Korean war.  After he was discharged, he attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa.

George was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 for over 50 years, retiring from the concrete business in 1995.

Our Dad loved football, exercising, lifting weights, American Flags, reading and sharing drinks with friends.  His biggest joy was sharing ice cream everyday with his pride and joy, his daughter and our sister, Ann.

We had a very special Dad and we will miss him every day, forever.  The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Health for their loving and compassionate care.
