STREATOR- Frank J. Canale 86 of Streator formerly of Ransom died Tuesday morning (June 18, 2013) at Heritage Health, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday at Hagi Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Niebuhr, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-Noon Friday at Hagi Funeral Home. Full military rites will be conducted by members of Ransom American Legion Post # 674, Streator American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492, will be held at the funeral home following the funeral services.
Mr. Canale was born May 23, 1927 in Streator the son of Anthony and Mary (Carbone) Canale. He married Phyllis Hagi, Feb. 21, 1946 in Pontiac. She survives.
Frank had been employed as a rural mail carrier form 1971-1993, he also was a barber in Ransom for many years and tended bar at Jerry’s Tap, Ransom. He was of Catholic faith and a member of Ransom American Post # 674 and the Elks Lodge # 591, Streator. Frank attended Dwight grade school and Dwight High School; following his discharge from the Army he attended Barber College in Chicago. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army in Japan 1945-1946.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, one daughter, Carol Crawford, and one son Thomas Canale, two granddaughters, Carrie (Ron) Harcar, Jennifer (Tony) Kestner one grandson, Tom “TJ” Crawford, all of Streator, eight great grandchildren, Ashlee and Kaylee Harcar, Payton Crawford, Madilynn and Emily Kestner, Jake Harcar, Cole Kestner and Drake Crawford also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Fannie Lombardo and four brothers, Samuel, Joseph, Thomas and Leo Canale and son-in-law, Thomas Crawford.
