STREATOR- Edward H. Nielsen 79 of Streator died Monday afternoon (Mar. 12, 2012) at St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Charles Cline, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM-Noon Friday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator.
Mr. Nielsen was born Sept. 10, 1932 in Chicago the son of Edward and Madeline (Coluzzi) Nielsen. He married Margaret “Peggy” Connors, Mar. 24, 1952 in Chicago. She survives.
Ed had been employed as a meat cutter in Chicago and later was a bartender for thirty five years at Omar’s Tap, Streator, retiring in 2009. He was a former member of the American Legion. He attended grade school and high school in Chicago. Ed served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Nielsen, Streator, one son, Edward William Nielsen, Streator, three sisters, Arlene (Tom) Blanton, Manteno, Judith “Judy” Richardson, Streator and Karen (Gene) Cockerham, St. John IN, four brothers, John (Dolores) Nielsen, Seattle WA, James (Beth) Nielsen, and Richard (Holly) Nielsen both of Glenwood and Neil (Sherry) Nielsen, Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janet Rusnak and one brother, Carl Nielsen.
Pallbearers will be Mike Dougherty, Dan and Mike Rusnak, Rich and Mike Nielsen and Sam Soto.
