Edward Lee “Sonny” Mosell, 95 of Streator passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 at home in Streator.
He was born May 26, 1928 in Chatham, a Son of Edward and Marie (Johnson) Mosell. He married Patricia Slattery on December 2, 1950 at St. Anthony’s Church in Streator, and they spent 70 years of marriage together before she preceded him in death on May 8, 2021.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Jim) Sherwood of Streator, Daniel Mosell of Clinton, IA, Brenda (Bob) Stimpert, Russell Mosell and Pam Mosell all of Streator; nine grandchildren, Tanya and Travis Sherwood, Scott and April Vickers, Leah Yuhas, Alexis Finney, David and Richie Mosell, and Sheri Smith; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Mosell; two grandchildren, Randy Mosell Jr. and Jennifer Hanba; and two sisters, Mary Eileen Smith and Rose June Simons.
Edward was a former member of the Richland Methodist Church in Rural Leonore. He proudly served overseas in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific. He worked for Owens Illinois Glass for 22 years, retiring in 1990.
Edward was an avid Horseshoe player and loved to fish. He was a member of the Horseshoe Pitchers Association.
He will always be remembered for having a smile on his face.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 15, 2024 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, Streator, with Deacon Robb Caputo officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Friday prior to services at the Chapel. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
