Earl S. McBride, 93, of Ancona, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Streator's Heritage Health.
As Earl was a World War II-era veteran, there will be graveside service held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Phillips Cemetery, Streator with military rites performed by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born April 2, 1928 in Streator, Earl was the son of Raymond McBride and Esther Griffin Johnston. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marilyn J. Capiak. Also surviving are step-sons, Jim (Donna) Figlik of Port Huron, MI, Tom (Sue) Figlik of Lewis Center, OH and granddaughter, Sarah Figlik also in Ohio. Earl is also survived by his brothers David (Mary) McBride of Joliet, Michael McBride Sr. of Ancona, sister Betty Zack of Streator, sister-in-law Jean McBride as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Esther and Raymond; stepfathers, Elmer Barber and Homer Johnston; brothers, Oris, Harold, Ronald and Wayne; and sister, Julie Wagner.
Loving to work with his hands, Earl could be the original “Fix & Flipper”, converting rundown houses into homes since the 1970s, just not on TV. Working with his hands in other ways, he was also an accomplished Amateur Boxer relishing his time in the Golden Gloves tournaments.
A kind and gentle soul, Earl connected with those around him, from family, his beloved beagles and all of his many pets, strays and even wild birds, which would, at times, land on his hands.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. As Earl loved strays, the thought of helping your local animal shelter would make him happy.
