STREATOR-  Duane W. Schmitt 75 of Streator died Friday evening (Mar. 21, 2014) at his home.
Private family funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Small, officiating. Private visitation will be held prior to the services. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in St.’s Peter and Paul Cemetery, Leonore.
Mr. Schmitt was born Nov. 19, 1938 in LaSalle, the son of Leonce and Clara (Pflibsen) Schmitt. He married Dorothy Pavlick, they later divorced.
Duane had been the parts manager for Kelly Sauder Rupiper John Deere, Ancona, retiring in 2001. He was of Catholic faith and was a veteran serving with the US Navy from 1956-1960. He attended Leonore grade school and was a graduate of Marquette High School, class of 1956.
He is survived by one daughter, Jamie (Kerry) Bruck, Streator, three sons, Brian (Laura) Schmitt, rural Streator, Mark (Andrea) Schmitt, Greenville WI and Scott Schmitt, rural Streator, six grandchildren, Colin and Lauren Bruck, Sarah, Cassie, Kyle and Aaron Schmitt, three sisters, Gail Jaegle, Tonica, Joanie (Danny) Wiesbrock, Leonore and Janie Lock, Lostant, his twin brother Dean Schmitt, Oglesby, also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Virl Schmitt.
Pallbearers will be Brian, Mark, Scott, Kyle and Aaron Schmitt and Kerry and Colin Bruck.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
