Donald G. Lowe 86 of Streator died Wednesday evening (May 11, 2011) at the Ottawa Pavilion Nursing Home, Ottawa
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. Bryce Hays, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Riverview Cemetery .
Mr. Lowe was born June 9, 1924 in Streator the son of Donald G. and Inez C. (Turner) Lowe. He married Rosanne McCoy Aug. 21, 1946 in Streator. She preceded him in death Apr. 8, 1989.
Don had been employed as a line production assistant at Owens-Illinois Glass Co., Streator for forty years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First United Methodist Church , a life member of American Legion Post # 1492, Eagles Lodge Aerie # 645, and Sandy Ford Sportsman Club, all of Streator also the Elks Lodge, LaSalle. He attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High School , class of 1943. He was inducted into the Streator High School sports Hall of Fame for being on the football team in1942.He was an avid dancer. Don served in the US Navy in WWII and Korea aboard the ships, USS Pyro and USS Jeffers; he was active with the reunion groups of both vessels and the Tin Can Sailors Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Lowe, Streator, two sons, Daniel Lowe, Streator, David (Antoinetta) Lowe, Jacksonville NC, one grandson, Donald Lowe, one granddaughter, Melody (Desmond) Howell, two great grand children, M’Deja and D’Angelo Howell, two sisters-in-law, Barbara Lowe and Donna Lowe both of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four brothers, Russell, Kenneth, Dale and Wayne Lowe.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the donor’s choice.
