Streator

David Cerda Lopez, 61 of Streator passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at New Beginnings Baptist Church, Streator, with Rev. John Patterson officiating.  Burial will follow in Phillips Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be Kyle Simmons, Austin Lopez, David Lopez III, Jon Mauk, Brian Scarborough, and Jose Lopez.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.  An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday prior to services at the church.

 

David was born November 9, 1961 in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, a son of David V. Lopez and Maria Lopez Cerda.  He married Cynthia J. Simmons on April 8, 2000 at the Nazarene Church in Streator.

 

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; 8 children, Cristal (Martin Ortiz) Lopez of Texas, Heather (Brian Scarborough) Lopez of Mexico, MO, and Matthew Lopez, Kyle (Kelli) Simmons, Austin (Hannah Kavanaugh) Lopez, Alexis Lopez, David Lopez III, and Jasmine (David Risinger) Lopez, all of Streator; 20 grandchildren, Heayvn, Joshua, Madilyn, Khloey, Silas, Ramiyah, Jozie, Jacob, Antonio, Barbara, Richard, Marcie, Phillip, Wesley, Promise, Liyah, Dayna, Ivan, Oharah, and Matthew; and 2 great grandchildren, Harleen and Amaraz;  Also surviving are brothers and sisters, J. Guadalupe (Christina) Lopez, Mario Lopez, Jesus (Delia) Lopez, and Juan Lopez, all of Streator, Maria (Leroy) Long of Oswego, and Soledad (Brian) Holofchak, Elena (Nick) LeBeau, and Jose Lopez all of Streator; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Amy (Mike) Goodrich, Emily (Juan Escobedo) Simmons, and Richard Simmons Jr., all of Streator; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Richard Simmons and Barbara Oakes; and a brother, Manuel Lopez.

 

David cherished spending time with his family and grandkids.  He enjoyed fishing, drawing and painting, playing euchre, working on bicycles and cars, and cooking and grilling.

 

He had worked for Com Ed and RR Donnelley in Dwight.
