Streator

Craig M. Handzo, 80 of Streator passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2023 at his residence.

 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 8, 2024 at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. Rodney Kreier officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be Craig Handzo, Ron Dankenbring, Jim Clapp and Jacob Murphy.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Abbey Murphy, Reahgan Murphy, Christian Handzo and Morgan Handzo.  Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Monday prior to services at the funeral home.

 

Craig was born December 16, 1943 in Streator, a son of Michael X. and Marjorie B. (Parker) Handzo II.  He married Carol Novotney on April 21, 1979 in Streator.  She preceded him in death on June 2, 1999.

 

Surviving are a son, Craig (Debra) Handzo of Streator; three daughters, Carmen (Jim) Clapp of Oglesby and Kris (Dave) Connor and Kim (Rich) Holloway both of Streator; a step-daughter, Kim (Ron) Dankenbring of Streator; a step-son, John G. “Jack” Pieper of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Abbey, Jacob and Reahgan Murphy, Christian and Morgan Handzo, Frankie and Baily Connor, and Cole Holloway; and a great granddaughter, Layla Murphy.  Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Betty Novotney and Pat Novotney; and five nieces, Diane Carroll, Nicole Pike, Debbie Wietfeldt, Kathy Mardenly, and Molly Novotney.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; a brother, Michael X. Handzo III; and two brothers-in-law, Larry and Robert Novotney.

 

Craig worked for the former Myers – Sherman Company then became Peabody – Myers Company.  He was known for his work as a mechanic, working for Keen’s Service Station and Howard’s 66 Gas Station.  He had also bartended at several bars and taverns in Streator.

 

Craig was an avid Chicago Bears Fan and a die-hard Chicago Cubs Fan.
