Carolyn F. (Aukland) Nystedt, 67 of Streator, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Carolyn was born July 29, 1956 in Streator, a daughter of Ralph and Delores (Proud) Aukland. She married Samuel Pilato on July 25, 2015 in Key Largo, FL.

 She is survived by her husband, Sam Pilato of Streator; two daughters, Jenale Aukland of Yorkville and Kaleigh Nystedt of Morris; two nephews she had adopted, Douglas (Paula) Aukland of Plainfield and Dustin (Andrea) Aukland of Elmhurst; 8 grandchildren, Aden, Alexia, Imonie, Ava, Annabelle, Aaron, William and Cole; and 4 stepdaughters, Allison, Erica, Lisa and Alexandra. Also surviving are three brothers, Thomas (Paula) Aukland and Ralph Richard (Sandy) Aukland both of Streator, and Randall (Rubie Ann) Aukland of Punta Gorda, FL; many cousins, nieces and nephews and several friends.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Gerald L. Aukland.

 Carolyn was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Streator. She had worked for Graycor in Oakbrook from 2014 until 2021, and previously worked for Wheeler Grain Elevator in Long Point for many years.

 Carolyn was known for her strong will and vibrant laugh that would light up a room. She enjoyed vacationing in Key Largo Florida, playing cards, especially Euchre with the “Girls” and Uno with her grandchildren, singing karaoke, flamingos, and watching her soap operas. She also enjoyed the traditional visits with family friends in Wisconsin.

 Carolyn was also a generous and doting grandma. She cherished her time with family, especially the tradition of baking family Christmas cookies and picking out an ornament every year for each grandchild.

 Cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the Kangley Inn, Streator.  A private family burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, has been entrusted with arrangements.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Hope.
