Carol Ann Shabala, 72 of Streator passed away Monday morning (March 29, 2021) at her residence.

She was born December 7, 1948 in Streator, the daughter of Emil and Martha (Sunnen) Ochsner.  She married Mark R. Shabala on July 28, 1973 in Streator.  He preceded her in death on July 6, 2020.  They had enjoyed 47 years of marriage.

Surviving are three sons, Brady M. Phelan of Streator, Bryan (Tammy) Phelan of Coal City and Adam J. (Casey) Shabala of Plainfield; five grandchildren, Ryne Phelan, Knox J. Shabala, Decker S. Shabala, Canon N. Shabala and Bryanna (Dillon) Simmerman; and two great grandchildren, Faelyn and Greyson Simmerman.  Also surviving is a brother Ralph Ochsner of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Mark J. “Markie” Shabala.

Carol loved her family and enjoyed playing with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed listening to music and going to the mall shopping and people watching.

Carol was an active person and enjoyed landscaping.  She liked to dance and had competed in several dancing competitions.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and inurnment of ashes will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery.  Hagi Funeral Home, Streator is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
