Betty Picker

STREATOR-  Betty Ellen Picker 89 of Loves Park, formerly of Streator died Sunday afternoon (June 30, 2013) at Lincolnshire Memory Place, Loves Park.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Roger Hurlbut, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Mrs. Picker was born Aug. 17, 1923 in Streator the daughter of Emil and Ellen (Higgins) Jaeger. She married Walter Picker Sept. 15, 1946 in Streator and enjoyed a beautiful marriage for sixty three years. He preceded her in death Nov. 8, 2009.
Betty had been employed as Office Manager at Illinois Valley Ice Cream Co. (later Prairie Farms) for close to fifty years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator. She attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High School, class of 1941.
Betty loved spending times with friends and family, going to plays and shopping. She took great pride in her appearance and her home and was especially proud of her twin grandsons.
For the past few years she lived in a memory care facility in Loves Park, close to family. She carried herself through her journey with Alzheimer’s disease, the same way she had always carried herself- with style, grace and sweetness. She continued to enjoy getting dressed up and getting her hair and nails done. She endeared herself to those who cared for her with her quick smile and sweet nature.
The family is so grateful to all her wonderful friends who sent cards and prayers over the past four years. They are also grateful to the people at Lincolnshire Place, Peak and Heartland Hospice for their loving care.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet (Ray) Rice, Rockford, two grandchildren, Jordon and Zachary Rice, both of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Wally and one brother, Bill Jaeger.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington DC 20090-6011.
