Barbara Bruns

Barbara L. Bruns, 71, of Streator passed away at 6:25 AM Tuesday (August 20, 2019) at her residence.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  The Hagi & Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on September 27, 1947 in Streator to Virgil & Letha (Zimmerman) Hefler.  She married Dennis Bruns on February 17, 1973 at Immaculate Conception Church.  He survives.

She is also survived by her children:  Angie Bruns of Streator, Laurel Bruns of Grand Ridge and Jacob Bruns of Ottawa; grandsons:  Kaiden and Adrian Hood; a brother, Gary (Pauline) Hefler of Ottawa; nieces, Sarah Hefler, Laura Spinner, Helena Giacopelli and Diana Levy; her best friend Terry Podkanowicz and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lila Schablowky and a granddaughter, Kendra Hood.

Barbara graduated from Woodland High School and took a few college courses.

She had worked at the Fox Developmental Center in Dwight as a young adult and then in the cafeteria for District 44 for 20 years.

Barb was an animal lover with 3 cats of her own.  She also made sure the neighborhood strays were fed too.

Memorials may be directed to the M.D.S. (Myleoplastic Syndrome) foundation or to the family.
