Arthur Schafer

Arthur E. Schafer, 82, of Richland Township passed away Tuesday morning (June 13, 2017) at his home.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11 AM Saturday at the Lostant United Methodist Church in Lostant.

Memorial services will be at 11 AM Saturday at the church.  Rev. Mark Nowakowski will officiate.  Full military rites will be conducted at the church by Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and Streator Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217.

The Hagi & Baker Funeral Home in Streator is in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur chose to donate his body to science.

He was born October 13, 1934 in Streator to Clifford and Emma (Demoss) Schafer.  He married the former Marilyn Shawback on June 3, 1956 in Lostant.  She survives.

He is also survived by a son:  Rick (Cinde) Schafer of rural Lostant; a daughter:  Vickey Schafer of LaSalle and two sisters:  Carol Champion of Oglesby and Florence Williams of Granville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Schafer.

He graduated from Lostant High School in 1952 and then served in the United States Army from 1954-1956.  He retired from Owen’s Brockway Glass in 1992 and also farmed.

He was an active member of the Lostant United Methodist Church and he collected Presidential coins and loved to tinker out in his shop.  Family was very important to him and he cherished time with them and loved to travel.

Memorials may be directed to the Lostant United Methodist Church or to St. Margaret’s Hospice.
