Andrew Jones

Andrew E. Jones, 87, of Streator passed away at 7:24 PM Thursday (August 17, 2017) at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

Full Military rites will be held at 6 PM Thursday at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.  Funeral Services will follow the military rites.  Deacon Charles Zulz will officiate.

Visitation will be held immediately following the services until 8 P.M.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and burial will be held at a later date.

He was born January 3, 1930 in Kankakee to Steven & Agnes (Gaydos) Jones.

He is survived by nieces:  Jodi of Ottawa and Jennifer Gilberstadt of Yorkville; a nephew:  Mike (Lynn Mitts) Jones of Rockford and his children:  Nathan and Jan; his beloved dog, Molly and his special friend of 30 years, Janice Engstrom of Streator and her children:  Renee Engstrom of Streator, Richard (Laura) Engstrom of Streator; grandchildren:  Jessica and Josh Cooper; 5 greatgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dodie Jones of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arnold Jones.

He graduated from Marseilles High School and then served in the United States Air force during the Korean War.

He had worked at Smith Douglas Fertilizer for 20 years and then retired from Illinois State University.

He was a former member of the Sandy Ford Sportsman Club and he loved animals.
