Albert J. Martin, 93, of Streator passed away at 9:02 AM Tuesday (June 4, 2019) at Flanagan Rehabilitation Center in Flanagan.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 1 PM Friday (June 14, 2019) at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM Friday (June 14, 2019) at St. Michael the Archangel Church.  Third Degree Knights of Columbus members will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full Military rites by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

He was born on August 22, 1925 in Streator to John & Mary (Hrabek) Martin.  He married the former Grace E. Swain on November 26, 1947.  She preceded him in death on September 21, 2014.

He is survived by a daughter, Merlene (Marty) Hawley of Streator; daughter/granddaughter, Autumn R. Martin of Streator; grandchildren:  Tara L. Panko, Shannon Keele, Ross J., Devin J. and Cody M. Hawley; great grandchildren:  Kyle and Kaitlyn Gonzalez, Zachariah and Lucas Carroll and Salanha Tjeda and great great grandchildren:  Isabella and Charlie and Jaxsyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Margaret Panko; brothers:  John L. Martin, George R. Martin, Andrew Marcin, Michael J. Marcin, Peter and Adam Marcin, Thomas G. Martin, Frank A. Martin and Stephen L. Martin; and sisters:  Anne Creamean, Mary Lawton and Lucille Trumble-Cooper.

Al graduated St. Stephen’s Grade School and attended Streator Township High School.  He then served in the United States Marines during World War II serving in the Pacific area, Hilo Hawaii, Scapan, Tinian and Iwo Jima.

He drove a taxi after discharge and worked at Streator Brick, was owner of Martin Transport delivering brick to Central Illinois and Chicago.  He and his wife owned and a dairy ice cream shop, the Fireside Restaurant and the Blue Room Tavern.  He also delivered cars for Bill Walsh Automotive and delivered Vactor Trucks all over the continental 49 States.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church and formerly a member of Immaculate Conception Church.  He was a Third Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790 and a lifetime member of the Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
